At least 11 people lost their lives and over 30 were injured in a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, as thousands gathered to witness Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 victory celebrations. The event, meant to mark RCB’s historic title win, quickly turned into a nightmare due to severe overcrowding and poor crowd control.
One fan, who narrowly escaped the chaos, recounted his traumatic experience in an interview with Cricket.com. Suffering a leg injury after being crushed under a pile of bodies, he described the scene as “dangerous” and “terrible.”
“I fell down there. More than 20 people have fallen, and four of them are unconscious. It’s terrible. Look at that guy jumping over the fence. I don’t know how I came out of that because I was underneath 20 people there. My leg is paining and I can’t walk properly right now. It’s very dangerous to come here. Please don’t come,” he warned.
Despite the tragedy outside, the felicitation ceremony inside the stadium continued as scheduled, with RCB players addressing a packed crowd. However, the much-anticipated open-top bus parade, approved by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to travel from Vidhana Soudha to the stadium, had to be cancelled due to the uncontrollable crowd situation.

Kohli, visibly moved by the support, praised the fans for their unwavering loyalty before captain Rajat Patidar took the stage. The team then paraded the trophy around the stadium in front of a packed audience.
However, the celebrations were overshadowed by tragedy. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that 11 people died and 33 were injured in a stampede outside the stadium. “More than 2-3 lakh people came near Chinnaswamy Stadium; no one expected this crowd,” the CM stated.
He added that most of the victims were youth and announced ₹10 lakh in compensation to the families of the deceased. The injured are currently being treated at Vydehi Hospital and Bowering Hospital. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
