Punjab Kings (PBKS), led by Shreyas Iyer, defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025<\/a>. On June 1 in Ahmedabad, Shreyas Iyer\u2019s Punjab Kings beat Hardik Pandya\u2019s Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2, securing their spot in the IPL 2025 final. They will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 3, also in Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer chose to bowl first. The match was briefly delayed by heavy rain, but no overs were lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma each scored 44 runs, helping MI reach 203\/6 in their 20 overs. Contributions from Jonny Bairstow (38) and Naman Dhir (37) were also key. For PBKS, Azmatullah Omarzai took two wickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In reply, Priyansh Arya scored 20 runs, while Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed early for 6. Josh Inglis played a quick 38 off 21 balls to boost PBKS. But the winning momentum came from the partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wadhera scored 48 runs off 29 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Iyer followed with 84 runs from 47 balls. Iyer then finished the game with an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls, smashing eight sixes and five fours. He hit three sixes in an over off Reece Topley and later three more sixes in another over against Ashwani Kumar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PBKS reached 207\/5 with one over to spare and five wickets in hand. Ashwani Kumar bowled four overs, conceding 55 runs and taking two wickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After being found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer<\/a> and Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya were heavily fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the high-pressure match, both teams were penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate, leading to fines for both captains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PBKS was penalized for a slow over-rate for the second time in IPL 18. As a result, Shreyas Iyer was fined INR 24 lakh. The other PBKS players were fined either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever amount was lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IPL statement said, \u201cSince this was his team\u2019s second offence of the season under the IPL\u2019s Code of Conduct related to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 24 lakh. The rest of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, Hardik Pandya was fined INR 30 lakh for the third consecutive slow over-rate offence by MI in this IPL season. This is the highest fine imposed on any captain so far this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest of the MI squad<\/a>, including the Impact Player, were fined either INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever is lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement added, \u201cAs this was his team\u2019s third offence of the season under the IPL\u2019s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 30 lakh.
