The opening Test of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh concluded in a draw. The championship began with the Test series featuring the Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi cricket teams. ICC World Test Championship: Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first, putting on an impressive display in their opening innings. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led the charge with a brilliant century, scoring 148 runs off 279 balls at a crucial time when Bangladesh had lost three quick wickets. He was well supported by seasoned batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, who contributed 163 runs. Together, they added a strong 264-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Litton Das also played a vital innings, scoring 90 runs. Thanks to their combined efforts, Bangladesh posted a formidable total of 495 runs in their first innings.
Sri Lanka responded with determination. Opener Pathum Nisanka scored a commanding 187 runs. Dinesh Chandimal (54) and Kamindu Mendis (87) added valuable half-centuries, while contributions from other batsmen helped Sri Lanka reach 485 runs in their first innings.
ICC World Test Championship: In Bangladesh’s second innings, Najmul Hossain Shanto continued his excellent form by scoring an unbeaten 125, his second century of the match. Shadman Islam (76) and Mushfiqur Rahim (49) also added useful runs, with Bangladesh putting up 285 runs to set Sri Lanka a target of 296.
