Bumrah-Tewatia Exchange Adds Spark to IPL 2025 Eliminator

The Mullanpur crowd was treated to a thrilling IPL 2025 Eliminator on Friday as Mumbai Indians held their nerve in the final overs to defeat Gujarat Titans by 20 runs and secure a spot in Qualifier 2. While the high-stakes clash delivered plenty of on-field fireworks, a brief verbal exchange between Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Tewatia in the 18th over added a layer of drama to the already tense encounter.
Tewatia, having just launched Bumrah for a six, looked to continue the momentum but failed to connect with the next delivery. In frustration, he muttered a few words that appeared to catch Bumrah’s attention. The MI pacer, turning sharply, said, “Don’t say this to me,” with a glare that briefly ignited tensions.
However, the misunderstanding was quickly cleared up. Tewatia responded, “Tujhe nahi keh raha tha, khud ko bol raha tha” (I wasn’t saying it to you, I was saying it to myself), which drew a smile from Bumrah. The pacer acknowledged the clarification with a raised hand before calmly returning to his mark.

By the time tensions flared between Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Tewatia, the IPL 2025 Eliminator had already witnessed multiple momentum shifts. Chasing a steep target of 214, Gujarat Titans were dealt an early blow when Trent Boult dismissed captain Shubman Gill for just 1 on the fourth ball of the innings. However, a spirited counterattack by Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar reignited GT’s hopes.
With 45 needed off the final three overs, GT turned to Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan to finish the job. Bumrah returned for the 18th over and, despite being hit for a six by Tewatia, conceded just nine runs—leaving GT with 36 required from the last 12 balls.
With the win, MI now heads to Ahmedabad to face Punjab Kings on June 1 in Qualifier 2, with a spot in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on June 3 up for grabs.
