ENG vs WI: England Unveil Playing XI for First ODI Against West Indies

The England ODI team is set to return to action for the first time since their disappointing campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where they failed to register a single win.

This will be the first time that the England ODI team will be playing after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

England has named its playing XI for the opening ODI against the West Indies, which will also mark a new chapter in English white-ball cricket. Harry Brook, recently appointed as the full-time white-ball captain, will lead the side for the first time in this format.

The three-match ODI series kicks off on Thursday, May 29, at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The second and third matches are scheduled for June 1 and June 3 in Cardiff and London, respectively.

Ben Duckett retains his place at the top of the order, but he will have a new partner this time. Jamie Smith has been promoted to open the innings for the first time in his ODI career.

Joe Root will bat at No. 3, followed by skipper Harry Brook at No. 4. The lineup also features IPL returnees Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, and Will Jacks. Buttler, who will take up the wicketkeeping duties, is back after his IPL stint, while Will Jacks makes a return following his impressive performances for the Mumbai Indians in the 2025 season.

The pace attack will be led by Jamie Overton, Saqib Mahmood, and Brydon Carse. Adil Rashid will feature as the specialist spinner.

This match will be England’s 150th ODI in the 50-over format and also marks the beginning of a new era under Brook’s captaincy. With fresh leadership and several returning stars, England will be eager to start strong and put the Champions Trophy disappointment behind them.

England’s Playing XI for 1st ODI vs West Indies:

Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith, Joe Root, Harry Brook (captain), Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper), Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid.
