Axar Patel Fined for Slow Over-Rate in Delhi Capitals’ Loss to Mumbai Indians

The Delhi Capitals juggernaut was finally halted on Sunday at their home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium, as Mumbai Indians secured a narrow 12-run win, handing Axar Patel’s side their first loss of the IPL 2025 season. In addition to the defeat, Axar faced penalties from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match.
Axar Patel was fined for his team’s slow over-rate during the game against Mumbai. According to the IPL’s Code of Conduct, this was Delhi’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22, which pertains to minimum over-rate violations. As a result, Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs, as confirmed by the IPL media release.
Delhi’s winning streak ends

The new-look Delhi Capitals roared to the top of the IPL points table after winning their first four matches of the season. However, Mumbai Indians handed them a reality check on Sunday, as Delhi slipped to second place.
Chasing a target of 206, Delhi appeared to be cruising at 135-2 when Karun Nair, who was playing his first IPL game in three years, departed for a blistering 89. Leg-spinner Karn Sharma soon triggered a collapse, and Delhi was bowled out for 193. Nair, coming in as an impact substitute, had been the star performer, scoring his first IPL half-century in seven years off just 22 balls, including two sixes in one over against Jasprit Bumrah.
