The Indian cricket team is one of the most successful in cricket history and has emerged as a growing force in the 21st century. Whether at the Under-19 level or in senior men’s cricket, Team India has consistently performed well.
In fact, the senior men’s team is the second-most successful in terms of ICC titles won, behind only Australia. India secured their first-ever ICC title under the leadership of Kapil Dev in the 1983 World Cup. It took India another 18 years to win another ICC trophy, but after 2001, they added six more titles to their name.
In this article, we will explore all the ICC tournaments that the Indian cricket team has won so far.
1. ICC Cricket World Cup 1983 – Kapil Dev

India kicked off the 1983 Cricket World Cup with a brilliant performance under Kapil Dev’s leadership, defeating defending champions West Indies in their opening match. However, they lost two out of their next three games, putting them in a must-win situation. In a crucial match against Zimbabwe, India found themselves struggling at 17/5 when Kapil Dev played one of the most iconic World Cup innings—175* runs off 138 balls—to lead India to victory.
That win gave India immense confidence. In the final, they defeated the West Indies for the second time in the tournament, securing their first-ever ICC title. India also became the second country after West Indies, who had won the first two editions, to win the ICC Cricket World Cup.
2. ICC Champions Trophy 2002 – Sanath Jayasuriya and Sourav Ganguly

Under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy, India clinched their second ICC title in the ICC Champions Trophy 2002, being declared joint-winners with Sri Lanka.
The tournament, which featured 12 teams and was held in Sri Lanka, saw India win against Zimbabwe and England in the group stage. India defeated South Africa in the semi-final by 8 wickets and reached the final against Sri Lanka. However, rain washed out the scheduled final, and the reserve day also saw no result, resulting in both India and Sri Lanka being named joint-winners. Virender Sehwag was the highest run-scorer for India in the tournament with 271 runs.
3. ICC T20 World Cup 2007 – MS Dhoni

The 2007 ICC T20 World Cup marked the beginning of the MS Dhoni era, as India won the inaugural edition of the tournament against all expectations. India secured their place in the Super 8 after a bowl-out win over Pakistan in their second group match. Their only loss in the tournament came against New Zealand.
India defeated England and South Africa consecutively to reach the semi-finals, where Yuvraj Singh’s explosive performance stunned Australia. The final against Pakistan ended in a thrilling finish, with India winning by five runs to claim the title.
4. ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 – MS Dhoni

India’s next ICC title came in 2011 when MS Dhoni led the team to victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup on home soil. Despite being the favorites, India faced immense pressure throughout the tournament. They lost just one match, to South Africa, and their game against England ended in a tie.
India defeated Australia in the quarter-finals and Pakistan in the semi-finals. In the final, India triumphed over Sri Lanka by six wickets, with MS Dhoni finishing the match with a match-winning six, sparking nationwide celebrations. Yuvraj Singh’s stellar performances earned him the Man of the Tournament award.
5. ICC Champions Trophy 2013 – MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni achieved his third ICC title as captain when India won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 in England. India won all their matches, including victories over South Africa, West Indies, and Pakistan in the group stage.
India cruised to a comfortable eight-wicket win against Sri Lanka in the semi-final. In the final, they faced a tough challenge from England but held their nerves to win by just five runs while defending 129 in a rain-affected match reduced to 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan was named Player of the Series for his 363 runs in the tournament.
6. ICC T20 World Cup 2024 – Indian Cricket Team

Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India secured their sixth ICC title by winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, ending an 11-year wait for ICC silverware. India made history by becoming the first team to win a men’s T20 World Cup without losing a single game.
Throughout the tournament, India triumphed over teams like England, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. In the final, they defeated South Africa, who also had an undefeated record, to claim the title.
7. ICC Champions Trophy 2025 – Indian Cricket Team

India’s seventh ICC title came in 2025 when they defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy final. This victory was special because India won the tournament without losing a single match throughout the campaign.
It was India’s third Champions Trophy title and second outright. Shreyas Iyer was the highest run-scorer for India with 243 runs, while Varun Chakravarthy and Mohammed Shami shared the most wickets (9) for India in the tournament.
