Sanjay Manjrekar backs Varun Chakravarthy selection: India made two changes in its provisional squad for the Champions Trophy 2025, one of which was Varun Chakravarthy. Team India has included Varun in the squad in place of batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. Former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar has also reacted to this decision. Sanjay believes that India has made the right decision by including Varun in place of Yashasvi and he is a wicket-taker bowler.
Team India Had Earlier Not Given Varun Chakravarthy A Place
Sanjay Manjrekar believes that it is beneficial for Team India to include mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy in the team. He is currently in the best form of his life and can be a stunning element, as many batsman have not yet faced him. pic.twitter.com/JKYvr1Ra5t

Team India had earlier not given Varun Chakravarthy a place in its 15-man squad, but he performed very well in the T20 series against England and was the highest wicket-taker. Due to this he also got a chance in the ODI series and now he has also entered the Champions Trophy squad. Varun has got a chance in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Jasprit Bumrah has been replaced by Harshit Rana.
Sanjay Manjrekar Praised The Selectors For Varun Chakravarthy
During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo, Sanjay Manjrekar praised the selectors for the decision to include Varun Chakravarthy for the Champions Trophy. He said about this:
“Varun Chakravarthy will make life difficult for some teams. He is a bowler who is at the top of his game. Not many people have played him so well. They have seen him in T20 cricket. When he is playing for a strong team, you have the advantage of being in the game and also get psychological advantage. He has got the experience of playing once due to the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
I think it is a great decision and in the right department. India needs wicket-taking bowlers. Harshit Rana is one of them and now you also have Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy. Both these left-arm spinners will take wickets but will also not let the batsmen score easily.”

Let us tell you that Varun Chakravarthy made his ODI debut in the second match against England. He took 1/54 in his 10-over spell in that match, while he was unavailable for the third match due to injury.
