It was a masterstroke from Rohit that ignited the victory in the final stages of the match.
Delhi appeared to be cruising toward the target of 206, with Karun Nair, making his first IPL appearance in three years, putting on a sensational show. Nair blasted a 22-ball fifty, his first half-century in the league in seven years, and Delhi reached 135 for 2 in the 12th over. Despite Mumbai’s back-to-back wickets, Delhi still had the firepower to keep the chase alive, with Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma capable of finishing strong.
However, Rohit Sharma had other plans. In the 14th over, from the dugout, he signaled to Karn Sharma to use a new ball, taking advantage of the IPL’s new rule allowing teams to switch the ball after 10 overs due to dew.
