Abhishek Sharma set a new record for the highest score by an Indian batter in IPL history during a sensational night at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The match saw some of the cleanest hitting in T20 cricket, as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), after a series of defeats, bounced back in style.
SRH decimated Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) bowling attack, achieving the second-highest successful run chase in IPL history, all thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s extraordinary performance. The 24-year-old, despite a bit of luck, made the most of his opportunity, smashing a 40-ball century. He ended up scoring 141 runs off just 55 balls, with 14 fours and 10 sixes, at a blistering strike rate of 256.36. SRH chased down the target with ease, finishing at 247/2 in just 18.3 overs.

Coming into the match under pressure, with only 51 runs in his first five innings this season, Abhishek Sharma seized the opportunity early and gained momentum. Though he was dropped twice during his innings and nearly dismissed off a no-ball by Yash Thakur, he never looked back, delivering one of the finest IPL knocks.
He reached his fifty off just 19 balls and brought up his century in 40 deliveries. After reaching fifty, he pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, dedicating his performance to the SRH fans with a note that read, “This one is for Orange Army.” Post-match, Abhishek expressed his gratitude to his mentor Yuvraj Singh and India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, for their support.

Abhishek Sharma shared, “This one is really special. I was determined to break the losing streak, and it was tough, both as a player and as a youngster. But the team’s spirit was really positive. With this victory, SRH have climbed from the bottom to eighth place with two wins now. They will next face Mumbai Indians in back-to-back matches, away on April 17 and at home on April 23.
