Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey is staying positive about the team’s chances of reaching the IPL 2025 playoffs, even though they’re going through a very tough time. On April 11, CSK lost their fifth match in a row, which is their worst streak ever in IPL history. They are now ninth in the standings, just slightly ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad because of a better net run rate.
Still, with eight matches left, Hussey believes CSK can still make it into the top four by the time the league phase ends. After the big loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he said, “We’re not giving up yet. In a long tournament like the IPL, it’s all about gaining momentum. If we can turn things around and win a few games, anything can happen.”
He admitted that CSK have not been playing good cricket lately and accepted the team’s poor form. But he still believes there’s time to bounce back. “Momentum can shift quickly in cricket. We’re working hard, and if we get a few wins, confidence will come back,” he added.

Hussey Warns Against Too Many Changes In IPL 2025

Hussey also spoke about the importance of sticking together as a team, rather than making too many changes. “This is the time to stay united. The players have reached the IPL by playing in their own style, and we don’t want to change that completely,” he said.
Some people have criticized CSK for depending too much on older, experienced players, and not giving chances to young talents. But Hussey disagreed. He said that even players in the later part of their careers like Shane Watson and Ajinkya Rahane have done really well for CSK in the past. He still believes the current group has plenty to offer.
As for the young players, Hussey explained that they are waiting for the right time. He said the team is still trying to win and doesn’t want to play youngsters just for the sake of it. “We’ll play them when they’re ready to make an impact,” he explained.
He also showed confidence in head coach Stephen Fleming, captain MS Dhoni, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will stay with the squad even though he’s been ruled out due to injury. Hussey praised the leadership group and believes they will keep the team strong during these hard times.
Lastly, he made a request to the fans: “We know it’s tough right now, but we still believe in our team. The CSK fans have always been amazing, and we hope they continue supporting us. The players are hurting and want to turn things around not just for themselves, but for the fans as well.”
