Phil Salt and Tim David pulled off a sensational catch at long-on in the final over to seal a thrilling 12-run victory for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) over Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025. With MI needing 19 runs from the last five balls, it briefly looked like Deepak Chahar had cleared the boundary for a six. But RCB turned the tide with a moment of brilliance, as Salt and David combined superbly to complete a stunning catch, playing a crucial role in RCB’s narrow win.

But just as the ball soared toward deep mid-wicket, Phil Salt, more often seen behind the stumps, charged in with determination. He managed to grab the ball mid-air, but lost his balance in the process.
Displaying remarkable presence of mind, Salt tossed the ball to Tim David, who had sprinted in to back him up. David completed the play with a brilliant catch, turning it into a spectacular team effort.

MI vs RCB, IPL 2025: As It Happened
Royal Challengers Bengaluru edged out Mumbai Indians in a thrilling contest, winning by 12 runs and spoiling Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback from injury. Despite a late onslaught from MI skipper Hardik Pandya, RCB held their nerve to secure a crucial victory on Monday at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
Bumrah returned to Mumbai’s playing XI after a three-month injury layoff, having missed the final day of India’s fifth Test against Australia in Sydney due to a back issue.
Invited to bat first, Bengaluru rode on strong knocks from Virat Kohli (67) and captain Rajat Patidar (64) to post an imposing 221/5.
In response, Hardik Pandya hammered a blazing 42 off just 15 deliveries, while Tilak Varma contributed a fighting 56. However, Mumbai’s chase fell short at 209/9, marking their fourth loss in five matches this season.
With 19 runs needed off the final four balls and only one recognized batter at the crease, MI’s hopes faded quickly. Krunal Pandya, Hardik’s elder brother and Bengaluru’s left-arm spinner, bowled a composed final over, claiming three wickets—including two off the first two deliveries—and finishing with figures of 4/45.
Rajat Patidar was named Player of the Match but credited the bowlers for the win, saying, “This award goes to the bowling unit. It’s never easy to contain a side at this ground, and the way they performed was exceptional.”
